New Exhibition Set to Open Celebrating Hammonton Organizations with 50+ Years of History

The Historical Society of Hammonton will unveil a major new exhibition on Memorial Day celebrating the businesses, organizations, churches, schools, and community institutions that have helped shape Hammonton across generations.

Titled Marking Milestones, Building a Community, the exhibition explores the stories of more than 100 organizations with 50 years or more of history in the community. Through photographs, artifacts, memorabilia, video presentations, and interactive elements, the exhibition highlights how these organizations adapted, evolved, and remained part of the fabric of Hammonton over time.

A special feature of the exhibition includes spotlight display areas dedicated to several long-standing local businesses and organizations, featuring loaned artifacts, memorabilia, photographs, and historic items generously shared by members of the community. These displays offer visitors a closer look at the people, products, services, and stories that have become familiar parts of everyday life in Hammonton.

The exhibition also ties into the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, using Hammonton’s local story to reflect broader themes of continuity, resilience, immigration, agriculture, business growth, and community identity.

“This exhibition is really about the organizations and people who built community over time,” said Laura Bethmann, Exhibition Chairperson of the Historical Society of Hammonton. “Some of these names have been part of everyday life here for decades, and together they help tell the story of how Hammonton continued to grow and change while still maintaining a strong sense of identity.”

The exhibit will officially open during the Historical Society’s annual Memorial Day Open House on Monday, May 25, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the HSH Museum located in Veterans Park.
