The Historical Society of Hammonton (HSH) is pleased to announce the launch of a new public-use genealogy research workstation at the HSH Museum. The workstation features an Ancestry.com All Access subscription, along with access to historical newspapers, military and immigration records, and other research tools that community members can use during museum open hours at no cost.
This project was made possible through a new Special Funding Initiative offered by the Atlantic County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs. The initiative was designed to support smaller nonprofits that may only need a modest amount of funding to launch history-related projects. As a pilot program connected to the County History Partnership Program, it offered a simplified, rolling application process, making it an ideal opportunity for the Historical Society of Hammonton to begin developing a public genealogy resource. Through this grant, HSH was able to purchase the equipment and subscription needed to bring this new community service to life.
The genealogy workstation supports HSH’s mission to preserve, interpret, and share Hammonton’s history by giving residents a free, user-friendly way to explore their roots and discover connections to the past. “We’re excited to offer this new resource to the community,” said Eileen Unger, President of the Historical Society of Hammonton. “So many residents have an interest in family history, and this workstation provides an accessible way for people to learn more about themselves, their families, and Hammonton’s story.”
The genealogy workstation will be available during regular museum open hours and by appointment if demand increases. For more information, please email info@HistoricalSocietyofHammonton.org.
Funding has been made possible in part by the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of Cultural Affairs within the Department of State, through funds administered by the Atlantic County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
