Monthly Speaker Series Presentation – History of Egg Harbor City’s Sanitorium
February 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Historical Society of Hammonton (HSH) presents another fun FREE-to-ALL Speaker Series event on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Canoe Club Senior Center, Hammonton Lake Park. No pre-registration required.
Discover the fascinating history of Egg Harbor City’s Sanitorium, the “Neutral Water Health Resort,” which operated between 1902 and 1923. Under the direction of Dr. Smith, the sanitorium attracted visitors seeking the curative properties of the cedar waters of Landing Creek. This presentation will explore how such water-immersion health resorts, popular in southern Germany and southeastern Europe, found a home in southern New Jersey. Join us as we delve into the cultural and medical significance of this unique institution and its place in local history.
Our speaker, Dick Colby, is the Volunteer Curator for the Egg Harbor City Historical Society’s Roundhouse Museum. A passionate researcher, Colby brings Southern New Jersey’s rich history to life through his presentations, including this fascinating story of Egg Harbor City’s Sanitorium.
