Schools in Early Atlantic County – Sponsored by Atlantic County Roundtable of Historical Organization
October 15, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This FREE-to-the-public presentation will take place on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 2 PM at the Atlantic County Historical Society, 907 Shore Road, Somers Point, NJ.
The Atlantic County Historical Society announced their upcoming program “Schools of Atlantic County”, to be presented at two different locations on two consecutive Sundays in October. The first presentation will be Sunday, 2 PM October 15, 2023 at the Atlantic County Historical Society, located on 907 Shore Road in Somers Point, N.J. The second repeat presentation will be held on Sunday, 2 PM October 22, 2023, in Hammonton at the Canoe Club in Hammonton Lake Park.
The Atlantic County Historical Society is comprised of all the historical societies within the county, including the Historical Society of Hammonton, who actively participates in quarterly roundtable meetings discussing topics relevant to the entire county.
This year’s annual presentation will focus on nineteenth and early twentieth century schools of Atlantic County. Each participating historical society will take 5-10 minutes showing photographs and discussing the most interesting facts about those schools. Additionally, more school pictures and artifacts will be available to view following the presentations. Members of each of the historical societies will be glad to answer questions. Light refreshments will also be available to enjoy. Please come and join us at either of the available locations and/or dates to learn about the educational opportunities and facilities available to our earliest residents of Atlantic County.
It will also be a great opportunity for those interested in local history to reach out to your local historical society.
Funding has been made possible in part by the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of Cultural Affairs within the Department of State, through funds administered by the Atlantic County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
