If attending just the lecture\, we recommend arriving around 6:45-6:50 PM. Refreshments will be available.\n\n\n\nThe Historical Society of Hammonton is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich\, multi-cultural social\, economic\, and political heritage of our town and its people. Our mission is to increase awareness of Hammonton’s rich history and to establish public access by collecting\, conserving\, interpreting\, and promoting it to the widest possible audience. \nOur Museum\, built in 1887\, is a treasure in itself. Formerly the Hammonton Town Hall\, it also served as a Town Library and Kindergarten. Located in Hammonton Veterans Memorial Park\, it is open to the public on Tuesdays from 10 AM to Noon and Saturdays from 11 AM to 2 PM. \nWe are always looking for new member and volunteers\, even if you’re new to Hammonton. Moderated by local historian Dave Murphy\, this evening will feature speakers from Life Mission Fellowship\, Victory Bible Church\, Hammonton Presbyterian Church\, and Hammonton Methodist Church.\n\nTogether\, we’ll explore the stories of how these faith communities were founded\, how they’ve grown\, and the important role they continue to play in our town’s cultural and spiritual life. Future events will spotlight even more of the town’s faith communities and ensure all are represented. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the shared history\, diversity\, and enduring contributions of these institutions to Hammonton’s identity.\n\nThis will be a night of meaningful stories and rich history—don’t miss it!\n\nAbout the Moderator:Dave Murphy is a retired teacher\, longtime Historical Society trustee\, and active community volunteer. DESCRIPTION:The Historical Society of Hammonton (HSH) presents another fun FREE-to-ALL Speaker Series event on Thursday\, March 6\, 2025\, at 7:00 PM at the Canoe Club Senior Center\, Hammonton Lake Park. No pre-registration required. \nAtsion historian Nicholas Muscella will take the audience on a journey through the rise and fall of Atsion Village\, exploring its role in South Jersey’s iron-making industry and the stories of the many figures who shaped its history. In its heyday\, the Atsion Iron Furnace was managed by Samuel Richards\, the older brother of Batsto’s Jesse Richards. Muscella will share the fascinating stories of Atsion’s numerous owners\, including a bankrupt businessman who fled the country\, and the village’s final years\, which saw the construction of a cotton mill. \nNicholas Muscella is a seasonal historian at Wharton State Forest and a history major at Rowan College at Burlington County. His extensive research and deep passion for South Jersey’s industrial past bring Atsion’s fascinating history to life. \nThe presentation begins at 7:00 PM\, following the HSH Monthly Membership Meeting at 6:00 PM\, open to all. If attending just the lecture\, we recommend arriving around 6:45-6:50 PM. Refreshments will be available.\n\n\n\nThe Historical Society of Hammonton is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich\, multi-cultural social\, economic\, and political heritage of our town and its people. Our mission is to increase awareness of Hammonton’s rich history and to establish public access by collecting\, conserving\, interpreting\, and promoting it to the widest possible audience. \nOur Museum\, built in 1887\, is a treasure in itself. Formerly the Hammonton Town Hall\, it also served as a Town Library and Kindergarten. Located in Hammonton Veterans Memorial Park\, it is open to the public on Tuesdays from 10 AM to Noon and Saturdays from 11 AM to 2 PM. \nWe are always looking for new member and volunteers\, even if you’re new to Hammonton. Volunteering with us is a fun way to learn about and appreciate our great town. We uncover exciting new bits of Hammonton history every week! Our Museum also sells many books highlighting local history\, including out-of-print titles. All proceeds support the Historical Society of Hammonton.

Our historic 188s (former Town Hall/Library/Kindergarten) Museum\, a treasure itself\, is located behind Hammonton Veterans Memorial  park in Leo Club Park at Veterans Memorial Park open to the public Tuesdays 10 a.m. to noon and every Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. New volunteers always welcome! Join the fun and learn about our great town!
