SUMMARY:Speaker Series Presentation - John Mazzeo: Family and Photography in Hammonton
DESCRIPTION:This month’s program will follow the Mazzeo family’s arrival from Italy in 1884\, from his great grandfather’s humble beginnings as a brickyard laborer through farming and onto the family photography business of 76 years\, the longest-running studio within the national association. \nJack Mazzeo\, who grew up in the business his dad started in 1946\, will present a pictorial history that is sure to bring back lots of local memories.  He and Janet\, his wife of 49 years\, have raised three children and enjoy three grandchildren. \nThe Historical Society of Hammonton preserves the rich social\, political\, economic\, and multi-cultural heritage of our town and its people. Our mission is to increase awareness of Hammonton’s history\, and to establish public access to that history by collecting\, conserving\, interpreting\, and promoting it to the widest possible audience. Our Museum\, housed in a historic 1887 building (former – Town Hall / Library / Kindergarten)\, is located behind Hammonton Veterans Memorial Park\, open Tuesdays 10 AM to Noon\, and every Saturday 11 AM to 2 PM. \nIf you can’t attend any of our presentations\, come in and play back recordings of this and past Speaker Series presentations.  This will be our final speaker of 2022\, but monthly meetings and presentations will reconvene on the first Thursday evenings on the month\, January through June. \nFunding has been made possible in part by the New Jersey Historical Commission\, a division of Cultural Affairs within the Department of State\, through funds administered by the Atlantic County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.

DESCRIPTION:The Historical Society of Hammonton (HSH) invites the public to attend its FREE Speaker Series on Thursday\, October 6\, 2022\, at 7 PM at the Canoe Club\, Hammonton Lake Park. No HSH membership required.\n\n1947 was the inaugural year for the Little League Baseball World Series. The fascinating story of Hammonton’s All-Stars not only took on ‘the world’ on the field\, but off the field too\, in the area of equal rights\, and taking an unprecedented stand for inclusion for one of their teammates. ‘Third time’s a charm’ was never truer\, as our town sluggers took home the World Championship in 1949.\n\nSeveral veterans of the ’47-49 teams are expected to attend. Earl Rehmann will speak on the trailblazing ’47 team\, and Ron DeMarco will reminisce on the ’49 Championship season. Otha (Art) Crowder\, the only surviving member of all 3 teams\, plans to attend too. Everyone will enjoy the LL World Series highlight reel.\n\nRita Black and Brandon Watson are expected to talk about Hammonton’s current 2022 9-10 year-old All Star (girls and boys respectively) teams.
